Raising your children begins with developing a relationship with them that will allow you to be an effective parent. Parenting is not an easy job and can be very demanding. Downtime is usually not an option for the working parent because they are not only providing for their family but taking care of them as well at home. You need to put a little more effort in to be a positive influence in their lives. Parents, unfortunately, must bear the burden of doing most of the work when it comes to child rearing. The mark of a great parent is one that has a loving bond with their kids which will continue even after they leave.

When children become toddlers, they often exhibit outbursts of emotional behavior that can be very difficult to control. If your children misbehave when you're out with them somewhere, find a way to administer discipline without delay. It is best to do this rather than waiting to get home, or even worse, deciding to ignore it because you are out in public. However, never engage in this corrective action in front of other people.

You're not out to damage the self esteem of the child, which can happen if you berate them in public. Embarrassing children in such a manner is not good for them in the long run, and won't improve their behavior. Most of your problems as a parent will occur once your children become teenagers. At this point in time, nature is playing a large role in hormonally motivating the choices and actions of these kids as their bodies begin to change. You can help yourself and your teens by avoiding the one thing you hated when you were a teen: yet another lecture. Of course we still have to teach our teens certain lessons and talk to them. The best strategy is to talk with them from the standpoint of an adult that can help. When you have a problem at work, hopefully you do not try to lecture anyone. It's all about having respect for each other and learning to talk with them and not at them.

Every individual is born with certain talents and certain limitations. Since this is true for everyone, we may as well come to terms with it. So it goes with your children, and that is why you must take that into account with the expectations you have of your children.

They should know that you love and accept them apart from any accomplishments or talents they may have. Parents who expect their children to be perfect are setting themselves, as well as their kids, for disappointment. Many adults still suffer from the unrealistic demands their parents placed on them. You should, therefore, make every effort to appreciate your children as they are and not try to force them to be something different.

Just know that sooner or later your children, as they grow up to be teenagers, will push you see what you're made of. Challenging moments can always be handled if you are calm and logical.
