Kii Keyboard for Android Is Bursting with Customization and Tweaking Options

Kii Keyboard for Android Is Bursting with Customization and Tweaking Options Android: We've established that there's an Android keyboard for all types, but Kii Keyboard is a new entry to the field that offers themes and layout options along with the features you love from other popular keyboards, all for the low price of free.

Kii offers over a half-dozen keyboard themes, and sports a split keyboard layout that's thumb-friendly. The keyboard accepts swipe-to-type gesture input like other keyboards do, and sports an extra number and arrow row on the top. Kii also boasts SwiftKey-style text prediction, although it doesn't connect with social service and email to learn the words you use. The app even supports keyboard themes from other apps, like Go Keyboard.

Granted, keyboards like Swype and SwiftKey have the Android keyboard market locked up, assuming you're not happy with the stock keyboard in Ice Cream Sandwich or Jelly Bean. Still, if you want more control, Kii gives it to you. It's free, supports 38 languages, and is available now at Google Play.

Malloy Nominates Andrew McDonald To State Supreme Court ...

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy has nominated Andrew McDonald, his chief legal counsel, to the state Supreme Court.

?McDonald will replace Justice Lubbie Harper, Jr., who reached the mandatory age of retirement for state judges last month.? When confirmed, he will serve as the first openly gay appellate jurist in Connecticut?s history,? the governor?s office said in a release Thursday morning.

?

The statement also said:

McDonald has more than two decades of experience as an attorney in Connecticut.? For most of his legal career, McDonald served as a litigation partner for Pullman & Comley, LLC, where he chaired the firm?s appellate practice.? Additionally, he served as the director of legal affairs and corporation counsel for the City of Stamford from 1999 to 2002, when Governor Malloy served as mayor of the city.? He currently serves as general counsel to the Office of the Governor for the State of Connecticut.

?Having had the opportunity to work alongside Andrew McDonald in several capacities over the years, including both as a lawyer and as a public servant, I am convinced that he will be an excellent addition to our state?s highest court and will serve the people of Connecticut well when he is confirmed to the bench,? Governor Malloy said.? ?In each of the roles he has served, Andrew has proven to have an exceptional ability to understand, analyze, research and evaluate legal issues.? He has undertaken his legal work with a focus on giving back extensively to his community and a commitment to the equal rights of all residents.? He will be an exceptional justice on the Connecticut Supreme Court.?

?I?m immensely grateful to the governor for the honor he has shown me through this nomination,? McDonald said.? ?Honoring the law and serving the people of this state have been the focus of my professional life, and I will be humbled by the opportunity to continue to do both on the Supreme Court if confirmed by the General Assembly.?

In addition to his experience as an attorney, McDonald held several elected positions in the state, including as state senator of the 27th district from 2003 to 2011, where he served as deputy majority leader and senate chairman of the Judiciary Committee for eight years.? He served on the Stamford Board of Finance from 1995 to 1999, including two years as chairman, and as a member of the Stamford Board of Representatives from 1993 to 1995.?McDonald graduated from Cornell University in 1988 and received his law degree, with honors, from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1991, where he was the managing editor of the Connecticut Journal of International Law.? He lives in Stamford with his husband Charles Gray.

Baby Shower Ideas And Tips | Humpty Bumpty Kids

In Hindi, it is called godh bharai, Bengalis call it shaad, it?s seemandham for Keralites and in Tamil Nadu it is called valakappu?but they all mean the same?having a baby fills a woman?s lap with abundance and joy. Godh Bharai or baby shower is an occasion celebrated to welcome the unborn child in the family and bless the mother-to-be with joys of motherhood.

?

?

Traditionally, a baby shower is organized in the 7th month or in the last trimester of the pregnancy. If you are organizing a shower for your friend or family member, here are a few things that you need to decide :

?

? Set the date for the baby shower.
? Prepare your guest list. Decide whether it?s going to be ladies only or couples party.
? Choose the venue ? baby showers are usually held at home, but with changing times, they are being held extensively at restaurants, banquet halls and parks.
? Make sure your invites are ready to be dispatched /mailed.

?

Here are some fabulous baby shower ideas:

?

Mom and baby themes: Think about what the expectant mother loves; her hobbies or areas of interest. For instance, if she is a huge sports fan, have a shower around the same theme?baby items with team colors and mascots. As return gifts, you can also give away tiny team jerseys as souvenir.

?

Sleep Over: How about having a sleep over baby shower? Throw a girlfriends? slumber party?just like the good old days. If accommodation is a problem, you can have the same at a nearby bed and breakfast or even better, a spa hotel. This will give the women a great chance to catch up on all the gossip before the new arrival.

?

Get the Spa home: Who doesn?t like to be pampered and indulged? Though a modern day trend, this theme is gradually catching up. Get spa professionals home and give everyone massages, facials, manis and pedis. .

?

?

Paint your own pottery: Make the godh bharai a fun filled event with ?paint your own? pottery studio. Indulge guests in pottery making. They can paint their own pots and within no time there can be a full set of custom baby tableware ready when the little one arrives.

?

Godh bharai is a beautiful time for the entire family to come together and rejoice the pregnancy. Here are a few tips that you need to keep in mind for the lady in question on her special day:

?

? Make sure she gets adequate rest before the ceremony. With the various rituals, it might get a little hectic for her.
? Help her choose her dress wisely. Make sure she is comfortable in what she wears. Heavily embellished sarees and lehengas might not be a good option.
? Remind her to avoid gorging on too much fried and rich food as it might give her a heartburn later.
? Think of an appropriate return gift (as a token of appreciation) for the guests. Stoles, bangles, bindis or cosmetics are ideal as return gifts.
Ladies, why not share your godh bharai stories with other mums and mums-to-be? Do comment and share.

Search Engine Optimization: Make Your Business Visible On The Web

Your website should be optimized to major search engine spiders? tastes. Search engine optimization helps ensure that when customers look for products your business offers, your website finds its way to the top of the search results list. If this sounds good to you, read on.

If you want your site to appear high in search engine results, be sure your title includes your keyword or phrase. To connect each page of your website, ensure that every one has the same title tag attached to it. To further tie everything together, place the name of your company right after the title tag link. People are not likely to search for your company?s name.

Keep the content of your website user-friendly. In order to climb up the page ranks, you need to include accessibility features and optimize your website for text-to-speech readers. Make sure that both search engines and human readers can find what they?re looking for.

Search engines will lower your rank if your page has duplicated content on it. If you are struggling to find something unique to write about, think about what might attract new readers to your site.

Search engines use bots which constantly search for new and updated content. Adding new content on a daily basis will invite these bots to take a look at your site. Furthermore, articles that are well-written are likely to be shared with others. The people who have linked to your content are likely to come back to read more, and their friends will come with them!

If you have a foreign language on your site, you will want to add the language meta tag to your html coding. Thsi can help boost your rankings specific to that language.

Your page ranks go up when visitors stay on your website for extended periods. Keeping people on your website is key in getting repeat visitors, so have great content worth sticking around for!

Using a pay-per-click method can be one of the most effective affiliate marketing program systems. This service is the most common, and the pay is fairly low, but it can build up quickly.

Any articles that you contribute should always contain backlinks that are associated to your website. This is particularly prudent if your website is targeted at ezines audiences. Fortunately, ezines are often archived so you can see the content years after they were first published.

Think about using relevant keywords. Learn which particular keywords should be utilized as you build your site?s content and titles. If you take the time to do research and pay attention to your page stats, you will better understand what types of content people are looking for. In order to appear more on quality search engines, be sure to use this knowledge you have obtained.

Including transcripts for any video content, or content with audio, is a great way to keep your content more accessible for customers and search engines. When you give a transcript, the search engine will find it as well.

Make sure to configure your hosting company?s server so that it?s case-sensitive for URLS. If not, then your entire site could end up respidered with lower case letters, splitting up your link juice.

In order to achieve enhanced search engine optimization, become a member of area business associations. Since these usually link to your site, it helps with local search results. Additionally, people place more faith into your website if your rating from the Better Business Bureau is good.

If you want to rank high in a search engine, do your part to help out web spiders. Spiders are going through your content on a constant basis and are always pulling up your site based on keywords and other particulars; however, these spiders have to understand how to actually navigate around your site. To help the spiders understand the hierarchy of your website?s pages, craft a site map highlighting the most important factors of your site.

There?s a lot to search engine optimization, but as was stated earlier in the article, it?s absolutely essential to make sure your website gets the business it deserves. Make sure to apply these techniques to your website, as soon as possible, so that you can start getting more customers and more profits.

"The Oxen"

Barn in the snow.

Photograph by Photos.com/Thinkstock.

Irving Berlin dealt with Christmas expectations by writing a song about being in California: The little-known verse to ?White Christmas? makes it clear that the dream of snow and sleighbells is set in ?Beverly Hills, L.A.? where ?the orange and palm trees sway.?

In an entirely different way, Thomas Hardy attains surprise as well as nostalgia by basing his Christmas poem on a country legend. Hardy shows respect for rural customs and the kind of unorthodox beliefs that some might call ?superstition.? The respect, along with his wry, gentle detachment, both gain a kind of authority from the regional terms ?barton? (a farmyard) and ?coomb? (a valley).

Here again, in a Slate tradition, is Hardy's ?The Oxen.?

Christmas Eve, and twelve of the clock.
??? "Now they are all on their knees,"
An elder said as we sat in a flock
??? By the embers in hearthside ease.

We pictured the meek mild creatures where
??? They dwelt in their strawy pen,
Nor did it occur to one of us there
??? To doubt they were kneeling then.

So fair a fancy few would weave
??? In these years! Yet, I feel,
If someone said on Christmas Eve,
??? "Come; see the oxen kneel,

In the lonely barton by yonder coomb
??? Our childhood used to know,"
I should go with him in the gloom,
??? Hoping it might be so.

While this social class and their lifestyle has all but disappeared, the architectural style continues to be used in private homes, still offering the same charm and relaxation.

Anti-tax conservatives say no to tax-increase deal

BOSTON (AP) ? In the city where a protest over tax policy sparked a revolution, modern day tea party activists are cheering the recent Republican revolt in Washington that embarrassed House Speaker John Boehner and pushed the country closer to a "fiscal cliff" that forces tax increases and massive spending cuts on virtually every American.

"I want conservatives to stay strong," says Christine Morabito, president of the Greater Boston Tea Party. "Sometimes things have to get a lot worse before they get better."

Anti-tax conservatives from every corner of the nation echo her sentiment.

In more than a dozen interviews with The Associated Press, activists said they would rather fall off the cliff than agree to a compromise that includes tax increases for any Americans, no matter how high their income. They dismiss economists' warnings that the automatic tax increases and deep spending cuts set to take effect Jan. 1 could trigger a fresh recession, and they overlook the fact that most people would see their taxes increase if President Barack Obama and Boehner, R-Ohio, fail to reach a year-end agreement.

The strong opposition among tea party activists and Republican leaders from New Hampshire to Wyoming and South Carolina highlights divisions within the GOP as well as the challenge that Obama and Boehner face in trying to get a deal done.

On Capitol Hill, some Republicans worry about the practical and political implications should the GOP block a compromise designed to avoid tax increases for most Americans and cut the nation's deficit.

"It weakens the entire Republican Party, the Republican majority," Rep. Steven LaTourette, R-Ohio, said Thursday night shortly after rank-and-file Republicans rejected Boehner's "Plan B" ? a measure that would have prevented tax increases on all Americans but million-dollar earners.

"I mean it's the continuing dumbing down of the Republican Party and we are going to be seen more and more as a bunch of extremists that can't even get a majority of our own people to support policies that we're putting forward," LaTourette said. "If you're not a governing majority, you're not going to be a majority very long."

It's a concern that does not seem to resonate with conservatives such as tea party activist Frank Smith of Cheyenne, Wyo. He cheered Boehner's failure as a victory for anti-tax conservatives and a setback for Obama, just six weeks after the president won re-election on a promise to cut the deficit in part by raising taxes on incomes exceeding $250,000.

Smith said his "hat's off" to those Republicans in Congress who rejected their own leader's plan.

"Let's go over the cliff and see what's on the other side," the blacksmith said. "On the other side" are tax increases for most Americans, not just the top earners, though that point seemed lost on Smith, who added: "We have a day of reckoning coming, whether it's next week or next year. Sooner or later the chickens are coming home to roost. Let's let them roost next week."

It's not just tea party activists who want Republicans in Washington to stand firm.

In conservative states such as South Carolina and Louisiana, party leaders are encouraging members of their congressional delegations to oppose any deal that includes tax increases. Elected officials from those states have little political incentive to cooperate with the Democratic president, given that most of their constituents voted for Obama's Republican opponent, Mitt Romney.

"If it takes us going off a cliff to convince people we're in a mess, then so be it," South Carolina GOP Chairman Chad Connelly said. "We have a president who is a whiner. He has done nothing but blame President Bush. It's time to make President Obama own this economy."

In Louisiana, state GOP Chairman Roger Villere said that "people are frustrated with Speaker Boehner. They hear people run as conservatives, run against tax hikes. They want them to keep their word."

Jack Kimball, a former New Hampshire GOP chairman, said he was "elated" that conservatives thwarted Boehner. He called the looming deadline a political creation. "The Republicans really need to stand on their principles. They have to hold firm."

Conservative opposition to compromise with Obama does not reflect the view of most Americans, according to recent public opinion polls.

A CBS News survey conducted this month found that 81 percent of adults wanted Republicans in Congress to compromise in the current budget negotiations to get a deal done rather than "stick to their positions even if it means not coming to an agreement." The vast majority of Republicans and independent voters agreed.

Overall, 47 percent in the poll said they blamed Republicans in Congress more than Obama and Democrats for recent "difficulties in reaching agreements and passing legislation in Congress." About one-quarter placed more blame on the Democrats and 21 percent said both were responsible.

Although negotiations broke down last week, Obama still hopes to broker a larger debt-reduction deal that includes tax increases on high earners and Republican-favored cuts to entitlement programs such as Medicare and Social Security. If a compromise continues to prove elusive, lawmakers could pass a temporary extension that delays the cliff's most onerous provisions and gives Congress more time to work out a longer-term solution.

That's becoming the favored path by some Republicans leery of going over the cliff.

Mississippi Republican Chairman Joe Nosef shares his Southern colleagues' disdain for tax increases. But he stopped short of taking an absolute position.

"I really, really feel like the only way that Republicans can mess up badly is if they come away with nothing on spending or something that's the same old thing where they hope a Congress in 10 years will have the intestinal fortitude to do it," he said.

Matt Kibbe, president of the national organization and tea party ally, FreedomWorks, says that going over the cliff would be "a fiscal disaster." He says "the only rational thing to do" is approve a temporary extension that prevents widespread tax increases.

But his message doesn't seem to resonate with conservative activists in the states.

"If we have to endure the pain of the cliff then so be it," said Mark Anders, a Republican committeeman for Washington state's Lewis County. "While it may spell the end of the Republican Party ... at least we will force the government to cut and cut deep into actual spending."

Back where the Boston Tea Party protest took place in 1773, Morabito wonders whether Boehner will survive the internal political upheaval and says Republicans need to unite against Obama.

"It looked like from the very beginning they were just going to cave to what President Obama wanted," she said of the GOP. "I didn't want that to happen. Now I'm hopeful that they're standing up for taxpaying Americans."

Gun lobby defends call for armed guards at schools

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The leader of the gun lobby on Sunday defended his call for placing armed guards in all American schools despite withering criticism of the group's response to the massacre of 20 first-graders in Newtown, Connecticut.

"If it's crazy to call for putting police and armed security in our schools to protect our children, then call me crazy," National Rifle Association Chief Executive Wayne LaPierre told NBC's "Meet the Press."

The NRA waited a week before issuing a statement on the December 14 killings of the children and six adults at Sandy Hook Elementary School by a gunman who opened fire with a semi-automatic assault rifle.

LaPierre's speech on Friday in Washington drew protesters and stoked the fierce debate over U.S. gun laws in a nation with a culture of gun ownership and a history of school shootings and other gun violence.

The proposal to place armed guards in every school, an idea the NRA has long supported, drew the most criticism.

The congressman from Newtown's district, Chris Murphy, tweeted: "Walking out of another funeral and was handed the NRA transcript, the most revolting, tone deaf statement I've ever seen."

The New York tabloids skewered LaPierre's speech. The Daily News labeled him "Craziest Man on Earth" in a front-page headline on Saturday. The New York Post piled on with "Gun Nut! NRA loon in bizarre rant over Newtown."

The NRA's proposal was also attacked by politicians including New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the nation's largest teachers union and Mark Kelly, the husband of former U.S. Representative Gabrielle Giffords, who was hurt last year in a mall shooting by a gunman in Tucson, Arizona.

But LaPierre was undaunted.

"I think that is the one thing that we can do immediately that will immediately make our children safe," he said.

'GONNA BE A BATTLE'

LaPierre scoffed at the idea that reinstating the federal assault weapons ban that lapsed in 2004 would prevent more massacres, citing shootings that took place when the ban was in effect, including the 1999 Columbine High School massacre in Colorado.

"It's not going to make any kid safer," he said.

Republican U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham made the same point earlier on Sunday in a tweet: "The assault weapons ban didn't work then and it won't work now."

On NBC, Graham said he himself owns an AR-15, the type of assault rifle used by 20-year-old Adam Lanza in Newtown.

"I own an AR-15. I've got it at my house. The question is if you deny me the right to buy another one, have you made America safer?" he asked. "I don't suggest you take my right to buy an AR-15 away from me because I don't think it will work, and I do believe better security in schools is a good place to start."

Other gun rights advocates in Congress showed a willingness to consider new gun restrictions immediately after the Newtown shooting. U.S. lawmakers have not approved a major new federal gun law since 1994.

"It's gonna be a battle," Senator Joe Lieberman of Connecticut told CNN's "State of the Union."

He and Senator Charles Schumer of New York criticized the NRA for blaming gun violence on everything but guns.

An attempt to prevent shootings in schools without talking about guns "is like trying to prevent lung cancer without talking about cigarettes," Democrat Schumer said on NBC.

Also receiving scrutiny is a ban high-capacity magazines that allow shooters to fire multiple rounds in a short amount of time. They have been used in several mass slayings.

Graham, of South Carolina, said on NBC he opposes that move as well.

Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar, a Democrat, said on ABC's "This week" that "putting some limits" on high-capacity magazines "could be part of the solution, but not the only solution." A former prosecutor, she also called for more stringent background checks of gun buyers.

The Obama administration was expected to propose steps next month to tighten gun laws.

France checks ministers' taxes after Swiss bank report

PARIS (Reuters) - French tax authorities said they were carrying out a "routine" examination of government members' personal finances and denied a report that Budget Minister Jerome Cahuzac was being singled out for a specific probe.

The statement was issued through Cahuzac's ministry amid weekend media reports that President Francois Hollande could be considering a government reshuffle, seven months after his May election victory against Nicolas Sarkozy.

Cahuzac, who is leading an official crackdown on tax evasion, has vigorously denied reports by Mediapart that he held a Swiss bank account with UBS until 2010 and is suing the investigative news website for libel.

Such allegations are particularly sensitive at a time when the government has sharply increased income tax for the highest earners and heaped criticism on wealthy individuals who have sought to shift their tax base abroad.

The budget minister is at risk of losing his portfolio in an imminent shake-up, newspapers Le Parisien and Le Journal du Dimanche both reported on Sunday, citing unidentified government sources.

But Cahuzac's ministry denied a new Mediapart report on Friday that its tax inspectors were investigating his own French assets. The minister had ordered checks on all government members as standard procedure, it said.

"As is routine with each new government, the budget minister has asked the public finances directorate to examine the tax situation of the government's members," the ministry said in a statement issued late on Saturday.

"It is this procedure that is under way, with the aim of ensuring that the position of every government member is irreproachable," it said. "No inspection or investigation is in progress with regard to any government member."

NFL-bound Aboushi helps storm victims on SI

NEW YORK (AP) ? Oday Aboushi watched all the news reports, sitting miles away from home at the University of Virginia and feeling helpless as Superstorm Sandy tore through the neighborhoods he grew up in.

The big offensive lineman, a potential first-round pick in the NFL draft in April, returned to Staten Island to lend a hand Saturday to those affected by the storm. Aboushi says driving through the hard-hit neighborhoods of Tottenville and Midland Beach was "an eye-opening experience," even nearly two months after families were left without homes.

Aboushi, joined by his family, is handing out food, supplies and clothing ? with an assist from a big donation by Jets linebacker David Harris ? to nearly 1,000 Staten Island residents.
